Living in a LikeHOUSE: the blog
Living in a townhouse development in Fairfax county, VA, I always knew my home wasn't unique. My wife and I were getting pretty tired of our house's layout. We were sure it was time for us to look for a new house to bring a change our lives. It was about then that I went over to a neighbor's house who I knew had the same model as us. There was little to nothing that was original in his interior. Where I had a wall, he had a breakfast bar. Where I had Prego floors in the kitchen, he had a heated slate floor. Where I had a florescent light fixture in the kitchen, he had hidden mood lighting. Yes, we lived in the same model, but his version of the same space was so different that you couldn't tell we had the same model. I was blown away! It wasn't just because his model looked so different, but because looking at his house had really inspired me to what all was possible in our model...

FEATURED INTERIOR OF THE MONTH
Morado Master Suite          enlarge
Alex and Rachel live in a Morado, Ranch, SFH in Fairfax VA. When they bought their home five years ago from the builder it was specifically because of the huge master suite and adjoining private sitting room area. They felt it would be their private sanctuary from their teenage kids whenever they needed a break. The design has been just what they wanted and they've thoroughly enjoyed it. The only problem being that they were bored to tears with the
builder's beige that the suite was painted. Alex says "It was nice initially, but over the years we've come to hate it. It's just so blah!" They wished they'd done a custom paint job when they first moved in, but the need for them to get settled in the area didn't leave them the time needed for painting. Once they got settled, they couldn't see themselves tearing the house apart again to paint. It took a while to reach this point, but now they both agreed that they'd have to go through whatever temporary inconvenience they had to to give the suite a fresh look. They wanted to make a statement. A statement that would jump start their day every morning. "The goal was a room that said we're bright, happy people" says Rachel.  "I think we more than succeeded with the color choice we picked. It's a now a joy again to wake up in this room each morning."
